Potty Training is Hard

For the last three days we have been giving potty training 100% effort. As soon as I get home from work I put her in her "big girl" underwear. She stays in them until right before she goes to bed. We do a 5 minute on the potty, 10-15 off. Yesterday I was home with her all day. As soon as she woke up, she went in her underwear. By noon she still HADN'T GONE PEE!!!! I put her on the potty from 12:00 to 12:15. We read books, sing songs, count, etc. She is sweet and happy, but if I mention the potty or trying to pee, she gets scared and upset. She tells me it's too hard. At 12:15 I gave up. Not even one minute later she is standing in the living room with a horrified look and was shaking, she was saying "no,no,no". She went pee in her undies. She understands the concept, hates being wet, and almost seems ashamed - which I don't want. I felt so bad for her. How does a child who drinks milk and water all day long hold her pee for 5 hours. She is going to get a bladder infection. We don't yell at her or tell her anything negative. We only praise her for trying(no reward for trying) and tell her she will get a reward when she goes. We have tried the little potty - which she hates because she thinks it's for babies. After her nap yesterday she was back in her undies. She went to bed at 8:30 and never went pee in the potty or in her undies. We'll continue to try, but does anyone have any advise???? I'm not giving up this time, but how do I get her to not be scared??

You know what - Kade is the same way. One day he just went without being scared, but only twice since then ( about a month ago ) has he even been willing to stand there. I would just bring her in with you every time you go, have your mom do the same if she's willing to show her it's not scary. One day she'll just go and never look back.

I'm not a mom, so I don't understand what you are going through, but I can tell you that she won't go to Prom not potty trained:)

Jeana,

I clicked on your blog and saw this, Ruby is still young(not even 3), just relax about it and maybe take a step back. It is not good for any of you if you are stressing about it, even if you think you aren't she knows you really want her to do it.
When Emily was training, she peed like a trooper but didn't poop for 2 weeks, she was so constipated they had to give her special laxatives. As soon as those kicked in she really didn't have much of a choice, as soon as she got over the intial screams, about falling in and realized she wasn't going to she calmed down and she did great from then on. That may have been TMI, but you seem pretty frustrated, so I thought sharing another potty story would help. Although now that I am reading it, it sounds like I tortured emily, I promise I didn't. Ruby will get it when she is ready, just take a step back for a little.
Good Luck!
